I started learning how to work in AutoCad in my high school shop class. This was before the times of smartphones with every app possible loaded. When I got my first internship at an civil engineering firm, I wanted to be ahead of the game and tried to freshen up my autocad skills. To my surprise, years later, they now have an app for it! I can easily connect across multiple computers (the cloud) and share all my 2d and 3d drawings when i'm in a meeting, at home, or on the go. More

I have found this to be a very useful app as far as helping me study for my engineering courses. The measurements are accurate and very helpful. My only complaint is that the calcultion time out a little too quickly at times requiring reentry of everything. More
by Benjamin Wallace
Having worked in the civil engineering field for years one thing you learn is that you can never have to many reference items for solutions. I tried this app for designing frames using FEA and it worked like a charm. More
4.Steel Profiles

Maybe you're a civil engineer. Maybe you're a building inspector. Maybe you're just someone who likes steal beams. Whatever your fancy, the Steel Profiles app has all the information about beams in various countries and all the nuances that come with them. Great technical reference guide, especially for engineers like me. More
by Benito Estrada
This is a good tool for giving me info on beams, though it is generic information and does not account for customized measurements. Still, it helps in my work and I often use it. More
5.Civil Engineering Basics
Free downloadCivil Engineering Basics contains a huge catalog of different pics for illustrating all the different pieces of information. This app uses the structure of a text book (or an article) to explain the concepts you need to know.

Almost 300+ topics are covered in this app. As a civil engineering student, this app is invaluable to reinforce what you've learned in class and to do calculations. You can also add site notes so as not to forget important items when out at a job site. The developers are also really responsive to user suggestions on improving the app. More

This gives me a lot of information I need to study. I like how it's broken down into categories for quick reference.
6.Engineering Professional
Paid: $11.99This app contains formulas of most engineering topics, like chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or civil engineering, among others. Really useful for students, because it also has over 100 conversion formulas.

So on the one hand, the way this app is set up is super super old. It hasn't been updated in about four years, and you can definitely tell--the design is old, it's clunky, and it's slow. The actual content, however, is really helpful, so it depends on what you're willing to lose to get it. More
by William Alexander
Engineering Professional is a great app to use. It is like having a book of formulas inside of your phone.
7.Reinforced Concrete
with in-app purchasesUse this application to make fast calculations of the parameters of beams and reinforced concrete, providing vital information about those items that every good civil engineer must know.

This is a great assistant to any civil engineer working on site. This application allows you to recalculate structure using codes for cement beans and other civil engineering construction products. Load barrings and weight capacities will be a thing of the past when using this app to help you out. More
by Craig Stone
Reinforced Concrete is a great app. The only thing holding it back is its limited appeal. There just aren't a lot of people who need to make these calculations. It's a godsend if you do, though. More
