DID YOU KNOW?

Any game developer applying for a license needs to produce a survival game within the next 3 years? This rule originated back in 1998 and developers had to abide by it. This might seem a little heavy-handed but the survival games didn't start out great either. The first survival game originated from across the pond. It was a British release titled Where's My Pouch back in 1878. It was soon met with controversy and scandal due to its themes of cannibalism. Survival games have had a rough time in the industry. Either it did too much that put players off or did too little to keep them interested. There were notable ones during the 1990s but none ever achieved commercial success.

The first modern survival game called Stranded released back in 2003. It tasked players to survive when they get shipwrecked on a dangerous island. It wasn't perfect but it offered players a world that they can explore. Hunting and gathering for resources as well as crafting items are a big part of the experience. Later games improved upon this while also providing a captivating plot and story. Another notable addition is the ability to play with other people. Despite the sense of dread, we find ourselves coming back for more. Multiplayer survival games gave a way to share the experience with other players. That makes for an interesting game if you think about it.
