This game has a strange plot. Isaac's mother is a deranged individual who hears voices of higher powers and threatens to sacrifice him to the gods. Fearing this, Isaac hides in his basement. While in the basement, he goes on an adventure where he runs into even more deranged enemies and kills them along the way. He also discovers a world of treasures which give him supernatural ability to kill his enemies and eventually make his way to safety. More

Not particularly sure what is meant by 'roguelike" -- but if it's referring to the dungeon crawler game, it's not very relevant to Spelunky, which is a platformer. More

I love playing rogue games on my computer. I recently found a wonderful rogue game called Spelunky which offers so many unique challenges.

Darkest Dungeon has won numerous awards and it is certainly worth of them. This turn-based, RPG strategy game breaks the mold of the stale genre and has some of the best art styles to go with it. More

The enemy design, power, sound effects and the different fights in Risk of Rain are something to experience and enjoy. Playing with friends online and exploring different levels and seeing my character evolve brings me back to this game a lot. More

Post apocalyptic fun and challenge in a world where humanity is a distant memory, and mutants rule the landscape. Challenging action with lots of levels kept me going deeper and deeper into the world of mutant blasting. Addicting and fun! More

I wanted to find a roguelike game for the PC. I am new to PC gaming and Steam is the hub for PC games. I was recommened FTL and couldn't be happier. Super fun game. More

I like that FTL allows you to play at your own speed. It also provides unique Lifeforms and technology.

Caves of Qud is a great suggestion, but there are other games on the PC that may fit this genre better and are closer to what I was looking for. I think that the Thief series of PC games would also be a good solution for this problem. More

Most rogue-likes are a daunting process for their unforgiving nature and hard to learn UI/Mechanics. I've always liked the concept ive beening thrown into a game without any tutorial and just fending for yourself but most rogue-likes were really hard because of the learning curve on the graphics and learning what each symbol means. But Caves of Qud has made it in such a presentable manner that allowed me to get my feet wet for the first time in Rogue-like genres. Only thing that I mind is that the map randomization isnt as random, but it's not a huge deal. More

I wasn't a big fan of the animation of Dungeons of Dredmor but the gameplay was exciting and kept me interested for a few hours at a time. There are some very difficult enemies throughout the game (I can't remember dying so often in a game) and that makes it very addictive. It's one of the more addictive roguelike games I've played. More

Dead Cells was a great find for me. It has wonderful graphics and it is easy to learn how to play. My son also likes rogue-like games so I introduced it to him and now he plays it more than I do. More

Not a bad way to pass the time when you're bored. I'm not super impressed by the graphics though, and the name really turns me off. Makes me wonder how many brain cells I am killing while playing this game. More

Ziggurat is a pretty fun game, but not anything like Rogue. It's more akin to early first person shooters like Hexen which is a name I haven't heard much. But it really envokes the nostalgia of a time gone by. More

This is an okay suggestion. This game was good for a little while, but that wore off rather fast since it is pretty repetitive. It isn't horrible for the price. More

I wanted a rougelike, and what I got was a FPS really. It bills itself as this combination for fps and rougelike but I'm not sure who they think they are kidding. More

Ziggurat is a fantastic action game that allows the player to explore dungeons with stealth. I loved the fast paced combat and the myriad of different spells at my disposal. More

For hours of entertainment you should check out Crawl. It's a multi- player, roguelike game you play on your PC. You'll get lost in time being the enemy and then becoming the hero instantly. All for enough loot to take to your dungeon boss. You've got to try it! More

Crawl is good roguelike game for PC where you control enemies and heroes alternately. You work toward fighting a dungeon boss that is controlled by other players. It is great for multi-play even though, to be honest, I usually loose pretty bad. More

This 2D roguelike game, GoNNER, promises that you will die a lot as you get used to the gameplay. I found this to be true in my experience, though once you reach a certain level of familiarity with the game you can stay alive and get further into the challenge. Unfortunately I found that there is not enough variation to make this a true roguelike game. At 10 bucks the game is a bargain, but I don't consider GoNNER an essential game in my collection. More

I love this game ! I love this award winning game because it is so much fun.

I want to say that Vagante is an action packed platform game that I just can't step away from, but that isn't necessarily true. While I really enjoyed the classic look to game and I liked the overall intention of the game, I must say it was very difficult to get use to the controls. It really is close to Roguelike except I would say it just lacks something that Roguelike had. I'm not sure what it is but there's just something off about it. I do appreciate that Steam has made this available though. I like that the combat is fast paced with good precise movements, there isn't a lot of clumsiness there. Where it kind of falls short is just overall control. I'm playing this on PC, and it definitely comes close to Roguelike, but the intuitive controls aren't there for me. Maybe it's my poor reflexes and dexterity but I don't think I'm that bad! I will definitely give it another run. Hopefully I can get more into it this time. I just dread overly difficult learning curves in games of this nature. More

Losing is fun! A good procedurally-generated platformer, though the gameplay itself is initially restrictive; not a lot of alternate paths or good loot until later on (though, the unidentified loot can have some fun cursed side effects). More

Vagante isn't exactly bad, but it's an early access game. Why does that matter? Because you never know when they'll be finished or what bugs you may encounter. So if I am telling someone about 'best' I would definitely look elsewhere and find a complete game. More

The Steam version of ADOM is excellent. I can get lost in this game for hours...make that days! If you don't like this one, you ain't a gamer.

This game seems to satisfy the inquiry of the rougelike genre for PC. Unfortunately the game is not quite on steam however there are talks of it trying to get greenlit. The reviews seem to be quite high with a 4/5 and 86%, although those were the only two that appeared. More

Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead is a great game for PC that is a lot like Rogue. It has a horror theme and is free which is the best part! You can get it on GitHub. Just search for CDDA - the graphics are good and it ran fine on my older PC. More

Beautiful interface. Innovative model. Like nothing you've ever played before! It somehow has a retro feel and a futuristic feel at the same time.

LOOKS RETRO, PLAYS HOT! I grew up in the 80s, when video games were something you had to go to the arcade to play, and Monolith *looks* a lot like some of those early Namco games. But it doesn't play like one, oh, no, no, no. Movement is fast and smooth, not slow and clunky like an old arcade game. And you enjoy TONS of weapons, combinations, terrain types and floor layouts. This looks like 1984, but it has 2017 under the hood. More

I do not consider this to be the best rogue-lite game on the market, there are so many other choices and this doesn't even come close to the top.
